Go Fishing Now In West Virginia!

While West Virginia is one of the smallest States in the US, it has some waters well worth highlighting as fishing trip destinations.

The New River leads the list. The New River needs to be on the bucket list of every smallmouth bass fisherman. Others waters include Stonewall Jackson Lake, Little Kanawha River, Blackwater River, Summersville Lake and Greenbrier River, just to name a few.

Smallmouth bass, trout and muskie may be the best reasons to plan a trip to the Mountaineer State but catfish, largemouth bass, and walleye can also be found.

Angler's Inn

As we did our review of the Angler's Inn, I texted my wife a pic with "Can we go...please?" The Angler's Inn looks super cool on so many fronts. While the more "rugged" fisherman may want a stripped down rustic basic riverside fish camp, some of us don't mind an occasional pampering, as a change of pace, when chasing down smallmouth bass. From everything we have read, the Angler's Inn does an amazing job of making their Victorian Bed and Breakfast a welcoming base for anyone looking to fish for smallies on the Potomac River or Shenandoah River. Set in the cool and historic town of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Inn provides a lot of fishing information on their site and can get you hooked up with just the right guide. For those of you who have a combined love of fishing and American history, Harpers Ferry has rich history from significant historical figures like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson, just to name a few. Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is located less than a mile from the Inn. This just begins to touch on all that Harpers Ferry has to offer. So come for the smallmouth bass fishing and enjoy all of the other adventures provided by a town that you have to visit to truly fully appreciate.

Elk Springs Resort

Elk Springs Resort

We might have some bias as the co-founder of Go Fishing Now started his college career in Morgantown, West Virginia but we simply don't think this State gets the credit it deserves for its fishing opportunities. Elk Springs Resort is the perfect example of a place worth making a fishing trip destination. Let's see...Elk Springs Resort offers lodging, a restaurant, guide service, largest fly shop in the State, rentals, pay pond and a hatchery. Do we have your attention? The Lodge is located on the Elk River. The Elk and other waters in the area near the town of Monterville offer not only rainbow and brown trout but also brook trout, smallmouth bass and muskie fishing as well. For accommodations, the resort has lodge rooms and suites along with housekeeping cabins. Their guide service specializes in fishing for trout on the Elk River but will tailor a multi-specie trip if that is what you prefer. Whether you have thought about fishing in West Virginia before or not, take a look at Elk Springs Resort. We think you may be as impressed as we are.

Harman's Luxury Log Cabins

At Go Fishing Now, we love fishing destinations that not only are great for the avid fisherman or fisherwoman but also have options for the non-fishing family as well. Cabins West Virginia has just such a place in Harman's Luxury Log Cabins. Lets start with the fact that these cabins provide access to amazing trout fishing. Their location near the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River give you a ton of fishing opportunities. They have 1 ¾ miles of private access trophy trout steam. Rainbow, brown, brook, tiger and golden trout swim this trophy managed section of water. Of course, there are numerous other waters to find nearby. Now lets go to the accommodations. Reviews that we have read consistently point to the fact that the cabins themselves are great places even on days when the weather doesn't cooperate. Amenities vary but flat screen televisions, Jacuzzi, hot tub, pool tables are all possibilities depending on the cabin you choose. Lastly, there is the area, which offers a ton of non-fishing options. Hiking, zip-lining and rock climbing are all nearby. The bottom line is regardless whether you are going for a serious nothing but fishing trip or a family trip with a mix of fishing and other activities, you should seriously consider Harman's Luxury Log Cabins.
